Detail : The Festival highlights the showcase of 9 pieces of oversize contemporary wax candle sculptures under the concept of “Her Story” created by artists from Chile, Latvia, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Vietnam, the USA., and Thailand including new young artists from well-known institutes in Thailand; for example, Silpakorn University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Sisaket Rajabhat University, Mahasarakham University, and Ubonratchathani Vocational College. This event is the only one in the world that the artists use candle wax as a main part of the creation by applying traditional wax candle carving art to become contemporary art as the different art form from the foreign artists’ perspective. Come and observe the artists’ working during 5-16 July, 2016, as well as see the completion of the sculptural works and listen to the story of each piece through the sound of music in the theme of “Candle of Music”. The Festival also offers other interesting programmes as follows:
- Installation Art, art that helps spice up the event and add fun stories according to your own imagination.
- Creative Art, art that visitors can join and create experiences together with learning, which will inspire them to have creative thinking and apply with their daily life because life is nature and art.
- “Visit the candle-making community” is an annual activity that is open to the public to closely see the process of building and decorating large candles in the temples in Ubon Ratchathani. The marvellous candles constituted by local wisdom of the artisan masters who have accumulated their experience and knowledge that have been passed from one generation to another as the offerings to the Buddhist religion in many temples and merit making of candle melting to be formed as part of the candles in the procession during 5-19 July, 2016.
